FAQ

Questions owners ask first

How the work is scoped, billed and done.

What happens on the intro call?

A short conversation about the company, what you need and any deadline, so we can both see whether I'm the right fit. If we go further, you'll get a written scope and estimate before any work starts.

How do you bill?

Most work is a fixed price for a defined scope, agreed in writing before it starts. Open-ended work, like a dispute, is billed hourly with an estimate and regular updates. Outside general counsel is a monthly arrangement.

Who will I work with?

Me, directly. I don't hand work to associates. For specialist questions like tax, immigration or patents, I'll bring in someone I trust and tell you first.

Do you work with companies outside Denver?

Yes. Most meetings are by video, and documents are signed electronically. I'm admitted in one state, so for matters governed by another state's law I'll say so and bring in local counsel if needed.

How fast can you turn around a contract?

It depends on the length and how far apart the two sides are. Tell me your deadline when you send it and I'll tell you honestly what's possible.

Can you help if I already signed something?

Often. We start by reading what you signed and what it actually requires of you, then look at your options.

What should I have ready for the intro call?

A sentence or two on the company, what you need done and any deadline. If there's a document involved, have it to hand, but don't send it until we've agreed to work together.

Is what I tell you confidential?

Once we've agreed to work together, yes. Before then, please don't send confidential details through the contact form; a short description of the situation is enough.

Ask yours on a call.

A short intro call, then a written scope if we go further.
